The Amazing Zane!! AM/CAN/Mult BIS/BISS Ch Rowland's Cezanne Of Imp-Cen,CGC, OFA H&E

"When you come to the edge of all the light you have, and must take a step into the darkness of the unknown, believe that one of two things will happen... Either there will be something solid to stand on...or you will be taught how to FLY."

In the fall of 2001, we purchased a dark, plushy, and all together clumbsy 3 month old puppy from Besty Scott, of Hampstead, MD.  We called him Zane, and over the next several years, he would re-write our history!

To know him, is to love him....

Zane was first shown in Louisville, KY in March of 2002.  He served notice of his quality when he earned a major reserve from the 6-9 class!  But, he was a puppy, and he was in the shadow of his dam, Kira, BIS/BISS Ch. Rowland's Cure For Love, CD, TC.  Who was the talk of the shows that summer, earning 6 All Breed BIS's and 1 Specialty BISS.  Then, a call from Mr. James Moses, and a very young "Zane" went off to "school".

In the spring of 2003, Zane returned home a finished champion, and Mr. Moses said, "Go out and special him!"  And with that the team of Christi & Zane began their magical journey!  At age 21months, Zane became the first Imp-Cen dog to go Best In Show!  But that was only the begining!  At year's end he was the #1 male German Shepherd Dog and Best Of Opp. Sex at Westminster 2004!!

Today, Zane continues his specials' career, now into our 4th and final year.  He has earned over 141 Best of Breed wins, a 4th All Breed BIS, A Specialty Best, 22 Herding Group 1's, and in excess of 65 Group Placings in total! In addition, he has proven himself as a quality sire, with several of his progeny winning points from the puppy classes, and a futurity placing daughter from his first litter! Just appraoch us at a show, and you can meet this "Amazing Dog"!!

(awards as of October 2006)

As many now know, my Zane suffered  splenic torsion in August 2005.  The combined efforts of Town & Contry Animal Hospital, Wheeling, WV and the Miracle workers at Columbus Med Vet, Columbus, OH, saved him inspite of a near 24 hour delay in surgery!  The delay because of the seriousness of the situation, Zane was so unstable...Med Vet waited until just the right moment to attempt the surgery.  Not only did he survive, but with removal of his spleen, he seems stronger, and much more energetic than ever!  This seems curious to me, so I intend to focus  on learning more about this terrible disease.  Zane himself seems to urgently await a return to showing, so we intend to make 2006 his final year in the ring.  This time, not for numbers or records, this time its for all the beloved German Shepherds who were unable to survive this heartrenching experience.....this time, its not about winning, its about celebrating life, to those less fortunate, today he shows for you.  God Bless

For Zane:

You are a great champion.  When you circled the ring, the ground shook, the sky opened, and mere mortals parted, parted the way to victory, where I'll meet you in the center of the ring, and hold you in my arms forever!

Love, Christi               (inspired by the movie, Dreamer)
